ASTM F3340 explained

ASTM F3340 is a standard test method used to measure a camping mattress’s resistance to heat loss. OutdoorSpecs requires evidence at the product or value level before treating a reported R-value as ASTM-comparable.

Why evidence scope matters

A brand may explain that it uses ASTM testing without tying a particular product value to the test. That wording provides context, but it does not qualify the value. The evidence must connect the product or reported value to ASTM F3340.

OutdoorSpecs qualification rule

The public field must be verified, numeric, explicitly attributed at value level, supported by a resolvable manufacturer source, and scoped to the product or value. Manufacturer estimates and contextual-only wording do not pass this gate.

What qualification enables

A qualifying value may enter an ASTM-specific filter or observation only when its other field capabilities and lifecycle scope also permit the operation. A chart combining R-value with weight requires both facts to be eligible and their variant scopes to be compatible.

What qualification does not mean

It does not make OutdoorSpecs the tester, endorse the product, or establish a comfort temperature. It means only that the manufacturer evidence meets the published comparison rule.
